Enabling PV Brazil

Framework Assessment of PV in Brazil

Solar PV is about to reach grid parity in most countries located close to the equator. At the same time, more governments allow and promote both large-scale and decentralized grid-connected PV applications. This project aimed at contributing to the sustainable deployment of solar PV in Brazil by exploring the potential within the ANEEL Resolution 482/2012 (RN 482/2012), which for the first time established a compensation scheme (net metering) for distributed generation, as well as by analyzing the energy auctions for large size systems with solar not competing with other technologies.

The report describes the legal and administrative framework of the above-mentioned policy options, presenting the steps that need to be followed by companies and individuals interested in both mechanisms. In addition, the report also addresses a few challenges and opportunities.

Project findings and the report were presented on 28 August 2014 during the Conference Intersolar South America in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
