Energy transition and the opportunities from job creation in the Middle East: Country case study Yemen

Forecasting of PV related employment creation in Yemen

The World Bank conducts a (series of) studies on job creation and destruction until 2030, based on RE development in 3 MENA countries, Yemen, Morocco and Egypt. Eclareon was mandated to investigate the market for decentralized solar PV in Yemen in order to estimate the job creation potential of this technology.

The project started with a review of literature and reports about Yemen and its electricity sector in general and the current and historic roles of solar PV in the country. Thereafter, a primary data collection plan and surveys were drafted in order to obtain real market data. Finally, a calculation model was set- up in order to estimate both the future market size for solar PV in Yemen and the job creation along the solar PV value chain. The results are to be described in a final report.
