EUROPEAN SEMESTER III
Support collection and assessment of information and data on climate and energy policies in the context of the European Semester and the Energy Union governance, including ex-post policy evaluation
The European Semester project aims at both gathering information on the main climate policies in the 28 Member States and assessing ex-post the impact of a limited number of such policies. The project is split in two independent tasks of equal importance
- Gathering country specific and up-to-date information that is directly or indirectly relevant for the climate objectives set out in the Europe 2020 Strategy and in the pursuit of the Strategy. These national policies and measures include in particular measures taken at national level to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, tax measures, measures supporting renewable energy generation and measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy dependency. For this task, Country Reports for all 28 Member States will be drafted in a six-month cycle.
- Identifying a short list of a priori effective mitigation policies put in place by the Member States and providing an ex-post evaluation of these policies on greenhouse gas emission reduction, jobs, growth and innovation.
The information and data provided supports the work of DG CLIMA and its network of country focal points in order to track progress and mainstream climate action into the Europe 2020 Strategy
Deliverables of the project:
- Country Reports
Ex-post evaluation of selected national climate change policies
