As part of the Export Initiative Energy of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the energy business trip “Innovative Bioenergy for Hokkaido – German Solutions for Japan’s Rural Regions” will be conducted in Japan in June 2026. The trip is aimed at German companies in the bioenergy sector, particularly those offering solutions in the fields of biogas, biomethane, waste-to-energy, solid biomass, and bio-to-X technologies.
Japan is pursuing ambitious climate and energy policy objectives and is increasingly investing in sustainable energy supply systems, especially in rural areas. Against the backdrop of stringent regulatory requirements, a changing support and funding landscape, and growing demand for technologically mature and sustainable solutions, attractive business opportunities are emerging for German providers across the entire bioenergy value chain. A special focus is placed on the region of Hokkaido, which is increasingly establishing itself as a model region for integrated bioenergy and hydrogen projects.
The aim of the business trip is to enable German companies to enter the Japanese market in a targeted manner or to expand their existing market activities. Participants will receive well-founded insights into market structures, regulatory frameworks, and current investment projects. The program includes a technical conference with pitching formats, company and project visits, as well as individually prepared cooperation meetings with relevant Japanese market stakeholders in Tokyo and Hokkaido. The trip is complemented by comprehensive on-site support and expert guidance.
The organization and implementation of the energy business trip will be carried out in close cooperation with the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (AHK Japan) and eclareon GmbH.
Pre-departure Webinar for Market Preparation:
To provide content-related preparation and early information for interested companies, a thematic webinar on the target market Japan will be held prior to the business trip. The webinar offers a structured overview of market potential, regulatory requirements, technological needs, and specific business opportunities in the bioenergy sector, and also serves as an introduction to the business trip. Participation in the webinar is expressly recommended and provides an initial opportunity to assess and refine your market strategy.
